New Five-Star Review for Fool’s Gold Folly

Recently, I received another five-star review for my latest book, Fool’s Gold Folly. This book takes up directly after book four of the Renegade Series, Double-Edged Sword. It tells the story of one of the minor characters in the series. After the Civil War has ended, Patrick Mulligan decides to uproot his family and travel west to Colorado Territory, where he hopes to strike it rich. But what he finds there is far more valuable than gold. Thank you so much, Alex Brown, for your wonderful five-star review!

J.D.R. Hawkins has written a compelling historical novella that brings the post-Civil War American West to life with authenticity and heart. The story of Patrick Mulligan, an Irish immigrant determined to build a better life for his family in the untamed Colorado Territory, is both inspiring and deeply human . The author’s attention to period detail, from the discrimination Irish immigrants faced in Denver to the back-breaking work of gold mining, immerses the reader in the hardships and hopes of the era . What I found most captivating is the relationship between Patrick and the aging miner Silas Garvey, a friendship that carries secrets and ultimately teaches Patrick the true meaning of a “rich” life . Hawkins, an award-winning author known for her immersive historical fiction, has crafted a story that is equal parts adventure, mystery, and a heartfelt tribute to Irish resilience . The gentle Irish lilt of the prose and the evocative descriptions of the frontier landscape make this a truly enjoyable and thought-provoking read. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves historical fiction with soul.
