Hawkins' rich narrative unpacks a whole world of imagination and emotions. Beautifully written and throughout, the book entertains, and it is moving in so many ways.
The words and the characters come to life and seem to jump off the pages directly to us. I loved this book and this author a lot!

"Double-Edged Sword" by JDR Hawkins is part of the Renegade series, a Civil War chronicle. In this, the fourth book, our protagonist is David Summers. He's a once-Confederate cavalryman returning to Alabama newly married and fresh out of the war, looking for a settled life. Instead, he runs into Stephen Montgomery, an old foe, and tensions rise. When David is accused of a crime he didn't commit, the courts want to convict him on the basis of his old Confederate status. Will he be able to prove his innocence, or will his war years haunt his future, too?

Margarita Garcia

''Double-Edged Sword'' tells the story of a soldier who returns home after the Civil War and has to start a new life carrying on his shoulder the remains of the war and also everything he left in his house before leaving. This is a beautiful novel with so many nuances that you will enjoy reading it. I highly recommend this series of books because it portrays very well the psychological damage that a war left on a person.
